MR. HERMAN TØMMERAAS

What are your first thoughts on awakening in the morning?

When I first wake up, I try to recap on my vivid dreams to try and understand what they truly mean. From there I try to tackle my actions for the day.

Shower of Bath?

Baths!

What made you become an actor?

Growing up in a family of performers, I always felt fascinated by it. I was never interested in sports as I was useless at it. My mother from a young age really encouraged me to try out dance classes, so I tried it and loved it. From participating in dance classes I ended up really enjoying performing arts which has led to my acting career today.

What are your tips for success?

To succeed you need to be able handle harsh criticism, remain humble, work smart, be open minded and try to keep positive as much as you can.

What project are you working on at the moment?

I am currently shooting for RAGNORAK season 3 as well as working on some cool ADR work for a very exciting movie that will be released next year.

How much are you like the character of Fjor you play in Netflix’s Ragnorak (2021) or how different?

We are extremely different in our personalities and outlooks on life. The only similarity we have is that Fjor and I are both very family orientated.

What attracted you to your character of Robby when you first read the script for Nightmare (February 2023)?

In the past, I’ve acted as the outgoing and overly confident characters, but Robby is the opposite. I really loved that his character was not the usual I role I have played in the past. It is important to take on roles that challenge you as it helps you grow and develop as an actor.

Would you say that Robby is one of your most complex characters?

The Robby character isn't very complex in general. But then again, he is not necessarily the only character I play in this movie...

I do have to give credit to the amazing co-stars and directors I have worked with as they definitely helped me gain knowledge and experience to take on roles like this.

Professionally, what are you better at now than before?

It’s always been challenging for me to release my emotions completely when it comes to acting. From the last two movies I’ve done, I’ve gotten to tap into exploring different emotions which has led me to be more confident in myself when it comes to delivering something emotional on camera.

Do you have any secret desire to work with a certain director? and why?

For me, the most important part of a good movie, is the script. Working with Tarantino, who’s a master at script writing, would be sublime and the ultimate dream.

Many actors are fascinated by characters with a dark side. Does it happen to you too?

Characters that have a dark side are always the coolest characters to play. They have so many layers, and depth. There’s something extremely fascinating about sadness and evil within characters. You cannot beat it.

If not an actor, what would you like to be?

Honestly, I’ve always thought about going into teaching. (If acting didn’t work out)

Do you like risk?

I love when things are safe and I’m in control. However, I would never be able to be an actor if I didn’t like taking risks.

MR. HERMAN TØMMERAAS

Are you of method or guts?

I’ve always wanted to do big time method acting, so hopefully I’ll get a character that requires that someday.

Have you ever felt typecast?

It happens. It’s very normal for your first two-three characters to be very similar, naturally. That’s when it’s important to try out something new as well. To show that you are versatile in your acting abilities.

Do you read books? If so what was the last one?

I don’t really read, sadly… I’m spending most of my off time playing video games or watching movies.

What makes you angry?

The climate crisis and how it’s being handled. The earth is clearly in need of an investment in more sustainable resources and fossil fuels being cut down on.

What do you do to stay fit?

I go to the gym 5-6 days a week, following a workout plan strictly. I’m allowed to eat whatever I want on Fridays and Saturdays. Outside of the weekend I stay off sugar and unhealthy food.

Do you wear glasses?

Sunglasses! (Fingers crossed for a bright future!)

A quality that you appreciate in a man? A Woman?

Being able to laugh at your own mistakes and learn from them.

Your hero in real life?

Leonardo DiCaprio. Fantastic actor, who uses his platform and position to spread awareness about subjects that matter.

Is there time for love with your schedule?

There absolutely is. I think. At least a little. Maybe.

Friday or Sunday?

Friday!

Dogs or cats?

Dogs as they are super loyal!

Wine or Beer?

Beer!

What makes a perfect man?

An extremely tough question.

What makes a perfect human?

Being your authentic self and seeing the best in people.
