What’s your first thought when you wake up?

Where’s the snooze button? Well, I actually try a start the day afresh. A new day, a brand new opportunity to be better and do better than the day before. I always think about at least one thing that I am going to accomplish that progresses me to my ultimate goal.

Coffee or tea man?

I love coffee, however I limit myself to one a day. Usually shortly after I wake up to kick start my day.

How do you deal with tiredness?

Personally I find the perfect antidote for tiredness is to keep moving, whether that is going for walk or going to the gym. However, most importantly I try to recognize the cause of my tiredness, for example have I had enough sleep, am I hydrated? If not, then I try to rest and allow my body the time and space to recover.

What’s your favorite sport?

Tennis for sure. I grew up in Melbourne so have been lucky enough to attend the Australian Open several times I admire the dedication and commitment it takes to be any athlete competing on the world stage.

How can we get the Sam Marchetta physique?

I strongly believe that diet the most important thing, everything in moderation I say. So I try and minimize my consumption of processed foods, and tend to eat a diet high in protein. Exercising consistently (4-5 times per week) is also important and this includes a balance of weight training and cardio. When it comes to weight training I find it essential to work out all components of each muscle group, for example when it comes to my biceps I use exercises that target different parts of the muscle.

Gym or personal trainer?

A mixture of both have worked for me, for the most part I have not had a personal trainer. However I have found them particularly useful at particular times in my life, when I first started working out a personal trainer was critical in showing me the right techniques and secondly at points where I have felt my motivation slipping a personal trainer has helped me keep my fitness goals on track.

What’s on your iPhone for workout music at the moment?

At the moment I am listening to a lot of retro music, mid to late 80s. My 80s playlist includes Simple Minds, Culture Club and Duran Duran. I have a preference for music with high beats per minute as I find it helps keep my energy and motivation up for the duration of my workout.

What do you wear to workout?

I am a tank top and shorts man. I think it is important to wear workout clothing that not only looks good but also does not constrict your movement.

How do you describe your personal style?

I would describe my style as mostly classic. I tend to stick to mostly a color palette of white, black, blue and denim, with splashes of color. I am equally comfortable suited and in jeans and a tee, it certainly depends on the setting.

Boxers or briefs?

Briefs and my favorite brand is an Aussie brand called Bonds. They are literally the most comfortable briefs ever, so much so I brought 20 pairs with me when I moved to New York.

A fragrance?

At the moment I am alternating between two, Tom Ford Black Orchid and Dior Homme Parfum. They are both fairly intense strong scents, that go the distance and last the day.

What’s your skincare regimen, any favorite products?

I have recently started using Kiehl’s, well since moving to New York. I am loving the Facial Fuel moisturizer, gives my skin a great hydration boost and keeps me looking refreshed. I also use sunscreen whenever I am out in the sun, in fact I carry a small bottle of facial sunscreen with me and apply it as needed. It has been part of my regimen for over a decade.

What’s your favorite body part? And your least favorite?

Tough question, favorite I would probably say my arms, in particular my biceps. Least favorite is not so much a body part, it’s my overall height. I wish I was a few inches taller.

What’s the one thing about you that you’d like our audience to walk away knowing about you?

That I always strive to do and be the best I can be, whilst acknowledging that I will forever be a work in progress. I am constantly learning and evolving.

What made you become a psychologist/author), and what is the most challenging aspect of it and the most rewarding thing about it?

My core motivation for becoming a psychologist was to contribute in a positive way to the wellbeing of others, writing a book is really about wanting share my insights and experiences with the masses. My sole purpose is really to support others in being the best that they can be.

Where do you go to switch off?

The beach, I can sit for hours and just watch the waves rolling in. The continuous motion helps take me to a meditative state.

Are you a perfect man? In your opinion, what does it take to be The Perfect Man?

Confidence in oneself and understanding that it is our uniqueness that makes as who we are, a perfect man embraces their own and others imperfections.

We know you were in New York recently what do you like about it?

Absolutely everything, I fell in love the city from the very first moment I visited. In particular there is a sense that anything is possible in this New York, that no ambition is to great and no hurdle too high to climb. New York is the city where I dare to dream big dreams.
