MR. JUUSO HAKANEN
What's your first thought when you wake up? Coffee or tea?
None of them... it’s a matter of how long I dare to snoozy.
What made you get into hospitality and what is the most challenging aspect of it and the most rewarding thing about it?
Hospitality found me when I was fifteen and somehow it became a career for me and yes, it has it challenges like every other job. Challenging is running a large team of young stars of hospitality. Motivate, inspire and challenge every each of them. My team is around 40 young talents all over the world. For me, I have been lucky and I have been part of big openings, like The NED HOTEL in London, SUKAIBA Copenhagen and when you put together a team of forty to fifty new staff members and open a restaurant and bar with huge success and great reviews it’s one of the most rewarding moments in the business.
Tell us what luxury means to you?
Luxury is a big word, and nowadays I would say “Time is Luxury”. Great work life balance and time to travel to explore the world, the new luxury is about experiences. I have already booked my first four trips in next three months and that is luxury to me.
What inspires you?
Traveling and meeting new and interesting people who can teach me completely unexpected life lessons and be the inspiration for my next great idea. I’ve often come back from a trip with a completely fresh eye on my business and private life. This helps me ensure I'm always innovating and being creative.
What’s the last book you read?
Becoming Michelle Obama <3.
A quote that speaks to you?
You are what you do, not what you say you'll do.
Where do you go to switch off?
My bed and preferably nude.
