On a warm afternoon at The PaliHotel Los Angeles, we sat for a post-shoot conversation with Singer-Songwriter Flo Chase. In rather candid form he shared his thoughts on everything from his current project, to the time of the day when he’s most inspired.

100% Coffee.

Do you sing in the shower?

Yes on the odd occasion.

Boxers or briefs?

Boxers.

Cat or Dog?

I'm a big animal lover in general but would have to say dog. 

Your favorite thing to do on a Sunday morning…

I like to go for a jog or getting to the beach. 

What’s your favorite body part?

That's a tough one for me but I would have to say eyes. I feel like you can tell a lot about a person by looking into their eyes. 

Organized or disorganized closet?

Definitely organized.

How would you describe your personal style?

Artistic, Rustic, Classic, Timeless, Accessorized, and I love hats.

What item in your wardrobe would you describe as defining?

Jewelry, hats and shirts.

How would someone get your special attention?

I'm a pretty open and easygoing person so I don't think it would take much really.

Tell us about what you're working on now?

I'm currently working on my upcoming debut record. So most of my nights are spent in the studio mixing and producing. 

Where did you get the idea for the “Spinning Wheel” in your new single?

I was trying to attach the concept of unceasing love to an object and that's when I stumbled across “Spinning Wheel”. 

You play multiple instruments, what instruments can you play, and do you have a favorite?

Guitar, piano, drums, banjo, ukulele and vocals. While vocals and guitar remain my two primary instruments; drums is definitely a fun one also.

What time of the day are you most inspired?

Definitely between the hours of 12am to 4am.

How has music affected your life?

In a major way. While first starting as a hobby and passion as a kid; it has always really been there for me; through the highs and the lows. As the years went by it became more and more important to me and to this day there's not much else I could see myself do with my time really. 

Do you ever compromise?

Depending on the matter of course; I believe I do when it feels like the right thing to do. 

What music acts do you personally listen to?

I listen to a lot of different bands and artists but some that really sticked with me throughout the years are; John Mayer, Ben Howard, The Paper Kites and Kings of Leon. 

Do you speak any other languages?

Yes, I speak French. I was actually born in Paris and only started speaking English at the age of 12 when moving to Australia.

Any favorite new movies?

I recently watched “Rocketman” and thought it was brilliant. 

What would be your super power?

Teleportation.

How do you handle stress?

By trying to get my head away from it as much as possible. Working out or going for a run usually tend to work well for me.

What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

For strengths I would include; enthusiasm, discipline, creativity, determination and generosity.In terms of weaknesses; self criticism, impatient, persistent and paying too much attention to detail. 

Where would you like to visit?

I would love to visit Africa and go on a music humanitarian trip.

Which fictional character would be the most exciting to meet in real life?

Forrest Alexander Gump.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to do what you do?

Believe in yourself and work hard, be patient and try trusting the process as much as you possibly can even when things aren't necessarily going the way you'd want them to be. 

Are you a perfect man? In your opinion, what does it take to be the Perfect Man?

Definitely not, and I personally think there's no such thing as perfection.Though, of course we should always aim to do and be better.

Is Flo Chase your real name? If not, how did you come up with it?

No. My real name is 'Florian Tarpinian' but since a young age everyone has been calling me 'Flo'. I came up with 'Flo Chase' while trying to find a name that would translate well internationally and since I've always been a big supporter of going out and 'chasing your dreams'; the sound of 'Flo Chase' resonated well.
