On the eve of the introduction of his first men’s offering we sat down with Jewelry Designer and Founder of Khiry, a fine jewelry brand started in New York City by Jameel Mohammed. His designs have been featured in fashion powerhouses such as VOGUE and WWD. For this feature photographer Tony Kim captures a selection from Khiry on our cover man Isaiah Hamilton.

Back to work!
What are some of the things you are most passionate about?
Justice, art, generational progress! I think a lot about the future.
How and when did you first become interested in becoming a Jewelry Designer?
I first started designing jewelry in college, after interning at Barneys New York. A necklace I had made caught the eye of the then COO, and the company's fashion director. That summer they encouraged me to develop more samples, and they would give feedback and critiques as I worked through new ideas. That was the first moment where I knew I would seek to make my impact through jewelry.

You’ve had many amazing people featured wearing your designs — Who is that one person you wish to see wearing your designs?
I'm still pining for a Bad Gal Riri placement.
Tell us about one of your favorite places in New York City and what makes it special?
The factory I work with in the Diamond District is a really great environment. It's family owned, and they treat their customers like extended family members. I love being in a place that's dedicated to craft, to beauty, and to problem-solving.
What are some of the mistakes or tips you want to give young designers who want to kick start their career?
It will take more money, more time, more dedication, than you can imagine at the outset.
Do you have any favorite new shows on NETFLIX?
The Politician.
